ATLANTA (AP) — The first person infected with Ebola to be brought to the United States from Africa was safely escorted into a specialized isolation unit Saturday at one of the nation’s best hospitals, where doctors said they are confident the deadly virus won’t escape.

Fear that the outbreak killing more than 700 people in Africa could spread in the U.S. has generated considerable anxiety among some Americans. But infectious disease experts said the public faces little risk as Emory University Hospital treats the critically ill missionary doctor and his assistant, who is expected to arrive from Liberia in several days.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has received “nasty emails” and at least 100 calls from people saying “How dare you bring Ebola into the country!?” CDC Director Tom Friedman told The Associated Press Saturday. (more…)
Here’s one for Lou! Seriously, this is a good discussion of what we used to call peer pressure, but what they now call ‘Social Proof’. Excellent comment on the YouTube thread:
“Science” is the new religion of the secular. Pointing this out causes them to foam at the mouth, “You don’t know what science is! You are an idiot! How dare you question science!” Science progresses by questioning existing science. Every experiment is conducted by humans, and the results are interpreted and reported by humans.
“There aren’t a lot of functioning democracies around the world that work this way where you can basically have millionaires and billionaires bankrolling whoever they want, however they want, in some cases undisclosed. What it means is ordinary Americans are shut out of the process.” Barack Obama, White House press conference, Oct 2013.
Breitbart London, James Delingpole reporting:
“Yes, indeed. But the millionaires and billionaires doing the damage are Obama’s allies on the liberal-left, not his enemies on the right. So says a devastating report published today by the US Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works.

11 Days ago Doctors Without Borders sent a dire message to the Western world: “The Ebola contagion is expanding exponentially and we cannot control the epidemic”. With that announcement they presented the following video:
At the time of production there were approximately 603 confirmed deaths in the region with 90% of those who contracted the virus dying within a week of symptom presentation. Within a week the “known” death toll has risen to 690 and continues to rise. Far more are suspected to have died in villages where aid workers have not been able to reach.
The most proficient doctor in the treatment of the virus has died, and within the last 24 hours the Western media have been notified of two more aid workers infected.
A doctor from the U.S., and another American, a hygienist who was supporting the efforts, have been diagnosed and are fully symptomatic.
Last night, as a containment measure, the entire border in/out of Liberia was closed. Things are worsening rapidly.

Apparently the left-wing Seattle Moonbats did not pause in their march for social justice to ask or evaluate SeaTac, a suburb of Seattle, where their $15 wage began earlier this year. Here’s a brief snippet of some conversation with a SeaTac employee:
SURPRISE ! 15 minutes south of Seattle, near the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, employees are already seeing the negative effects of such a hike. A February report from the Seattle Times revealed:
At the Clarion Hotel off International Boulevard, a sit-down restaurant has been shuttered, though it might soon be replaced by a less-labor-intensive cafe…
Other businesses have adjusted in ways that run the gamut from putting more work in the hands of managers, to instituting a small “living-wage surcharge” for a daily parking space near the airport.
That’s not all. According to Assunta Ng, publisher of the Northwest Asian Weekly, some employees are feeling the pinch as employers cut benefits. She recalls a conversation she had with two hotel employees who have been affected by the wage hike: (more…)
(Via The Daily Caller) This may come as a shocker to some, but scientists are not always right — especially when under intense public pressure for answers.
Researchers with the IUCN Polar Bear Specialist Group (PBSG) recently admitted to experienced zoologist and polar bear specialist Susan Crockford that the estimate given for the total number of polar bars in the Arctic was “simply a qualified guess given to satisfy public demand.”
Crockford has been critical of official polar bear population estimates because they fail to include five large subpopulations of polar bears. Due to the uncertainty of the populations in these areas, PBSG did not include them in their official estimate — but the polar bear group did include other subpopulation estimates. (more…)

Watching the drama recently on the Bundy ranch and surrounding public land in Nevada, we may be forgiven if we didn’t remember, or even know, that this is only the most recent skirmish in a years-long battle over local control of public lands.
The health inspectors, and the federal regulatory agency that controls all systems around the production, process and distribution of food, are looking to purchase a large quantity of Sub-Machine Guns.
WHY ?
Many observers speculated at the time the FEDS could not allow the appearance of the Militia to be the public impression of their decision not to follow through with the Bundy Roundup in Nevada.
Several issues were concerning. 1.) The “Oath Keepers” within the police department were openly exposed as frauds, and to-a-man willing to go along with the federal agents. 2.) The appearance of the armed Militia groups instantly became a risk to the power of the armed federal agencies and “for hire” contractors who are used to unlimited hostile action against citizens without consequence.
Now This…. [Assistant Sheriff Joe] […] Lombardo confirms that Metro developed a lot of intelligence about militia members who were present. Those who aimed their guns at officers will be dealt with.
“Yes, there will be consequences, definitely. That is unacceptable behavior. If we let it go, it will continue into the future,” Lombardo said.
Law enforcement sources told us that federal officials are preparing to move against Cliven Bundy, but they might wait months until things die down before making their move.
Metro Police could take separate action in response to the provocations they experienced in Bunkerville and may be working to identify particular suspects. (full article)
The media would like to sell the narrative about the Bunkerville community being angry at Clive Bundy or the militia, or the events, or ___fill-in-blank___ . Unfortunately for the propagandists the reality is fundamentally opposite..
And I’d like to point out something I’ve yet to see anyone write about. When the crisis around the Bundy Ranch events reached their apex, the Oathkeepers ran away. It was the militia groups who stood their ground.
NEVADA – An emotional crowd gathered for a town hall meeting on Thursday evening in Bunkerville.
Residents and council members praised militia members gathered there in support of embattled rancher Cliven Bundy, but had nothing but vitriol for the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie and the local and national media.
“The day the militia [came] was the day I felt safe again in Nevada,” one meeting attendee said. (more…)
