WASHINGTON DC – TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline will not harm the environment, the State Department — in a blow to environmentalists who want to block the project — wrote in a newly-drafted report on the latest proposed route.
“[T]he draft Supplemental EIS concludes that approval or denial of the proposed Project is unlikely to have a substantial impact on the rate of development in the oil sands, or on the amount of heavy crude oil refined in the Gulf Coast area,” the State Department draft report says, as Think Progress noted. (Reuters) – Michigan Governor Rick Snyder on Friday formally declared Detroit in a fiscal emergency and said he had identified a top candidate to take over financial management of the destitute city.
The declaration virtually assures that the state of Michigan will assume control of Detroit’s books, though Snyder was careful to say there is still a window of 10 days for city leaders to convince him otherwise.
“I believe it’s appropriate to declare the city of Detroit in financial emergency,” Snyder told a forum of community leaders at a Detroit public television station.
Detroit has faced the steepest population decline of any major American city in recent decades. Once the fifth largest U.S. city, which shone as the birthplace of the U.S. automotive industry and Motown music, it now ranks 18th in size with about 700,000 people – after suffering a 25 percent decline in population between 2000 and 2010. Let me tell you what the “real” long, and short-term, goal of the Fabian Socialist progressives is. The economy, right now, is naturally about to seriously contract. All of the signs are there: Wal-Mart is reporting massive drops in same store sales, restaurants are reporting the same, durable goods orders are the lowest in decades, Obamacare is forcing restructuring and lay-offs of small and medium-sized business payrolls. Etc…. etc.
All of the KPI indicators, including the revised 3rd and 4th qtr GDP numbers point to a new recession – it just has not been quantified yet. But.It.Is.Here.
This is known to economists and the White House. What President Obama, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi are doing is creating an argument to deflect attention from their failed economic policy – They are going to use the faux sequester impact to deflect away, and explain, their new recession. WASHINGTON DC – Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) said that if the sequester goes into effect, women who are victims of domestic violence will be “forced to stay in their homes with their abuser” at the “hands of the GOP.”
The automatic across-the-board cuts, known as the sequester, are set to take effect on Friday – a 1.2% reduction in increased federal spending in 2013, or about $44 billion out of $3.6 trillion. (more…)

The sequester is not an actual “cut” to the non-existent budget. It is a reduction in the size of the actual increase in spending. But if you listened to the Obama administration and the water-carrying media – you’d think the end of the world was afore us. Pfffffttt !
