The long run. The lifelong commitment.  The big picture. The foundational truths. These are the elements that feed the reactors that are burning deep within the hearts and minds of those who make a difference, whether or not they are flamboyant as they do it.  Such  people are deliberately self-aware but not self-conscious, because their focus is on what desperately needs to be done in response to what others are doing.

Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy is the title by Eric Metaxas that documents the short life and astounding work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer who lived all four of those identities to the full.

It is a mistake to think of Hitler having a meteorically sudden rise to power, and it is a great misreading of events to think that those who actively resisted him did so out of the anxiety of a moment, implementing plans only drawn up under the pressure of we must do something right now.  Bonhoeffer and and others who actively resisted both inside and outside of government and military service, were far more thoughtful than such a perception would suggest.

What follows is a two page excerpt from Metaxas’ 2010 biography and may provide some food for thought as we find our places in our own national mess, perhaps feeling as he did, that we have so little ground under our feet because of the entrenched betrayals and deceptions that are dissolving the world as we knew it. WASHINGTON DC – The National Security Agency and the FBI are tapping directly into the central servers of nine leading U.S. Internet companies, extracting audio, video, photographs, e-mails, documents and connection logs that enable analysts to track a person’s movements and contacts over time.

The highly classified program, code-named PRISM, has not been disclosed publicly before. Its establishment in 2007 and six years of exponential growth took place beneath the surface of a roiling debate over the boundaries of surveillance and privacy. Even late last year, when critics of the foreign intelligence statute argued for changes, the only members of Congress who know about PRISM were bound by oaths of office to hold their tongues.

SOUTH CAROLINA A South Carolina valedictorian garnered wild applause after he ripped up his pre-approved speech and delivered the Lord’s prayer at his high school graduation on Saturday.

The act was apparently in protest of the Pickens County School District’s decision to no longer include prayer at graduation ceremonies, Christian News reported. Officials said the decision was made after the district was barraged with complaints by atheist groups.

But that didn’t stop Roy Costner IV of Liberty High School. He ripped up his graduation speech for all to see, before he started talking about his Christian upbringing, Christian News reported. (more…)

This one we DID see coming.   Former U.N Ambassador Susan Rice will replace National Security Advisor, Tom Donilon, in the White House.   Susan Rice has been the visible face of controversy within the various Benghazi lies.   But Tom Donilon was as much connected to those lies as Rice. 

Tom Donilon and his pal Denis McDonough, were the actual ones making the decisions on the night of the Benghazi Libya terror attack(s).   Is Donilon leaving because that “stand down” order is about to come out?   [Although, honestly,  the guy does looks like he aged 20 years in the past 12 months]   

WASHINGTON DC – National security adviser Thomas E. Donilon will resign his post, White House officials said Wednesday, and will be replaced by U.N. Ambassador Susan E. Rice, a close confidant of President Obama with deep foreign policy experience who is disliked by Republicans but had been widely expected to move into the job. (more…)

Did NOT see this one coming.   We know her well, VERY WELL.

Samantha Power is Cass Sunstein’s wife.  She had a baby last year.  Before that she worked in the White House as a foreign policy advisor.   It was Samantha Power who created the “Obama Doctrine” – and framed the R2P (Responsibility To Protect) intervention rules for POTUS.

Samantha Power was the primary decision maker behind our interventionist entry into war in Libya.  It was her, along with Susan Rice and Hillary Clinton, who led the entire framework of our response to the Libyan uprising – and specifically our military engagement to protect al-Qaeda in Benghazi (Eastern Libya).    She is rabidly anti-Israel.  (we explain after AP article)

*Note*  Don’t forget that in Obama’s administration the U.N. Ambassador is a Cabinet Level position.   For all intents and purposes – equal to the Secretary of State.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A White House official says President Barack Obama will name former aide Samantha Power as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Power will replace Susan Rice, who will take over as Obama’s national security adviser. The official says Obama will announce both appointments from the White House Wednesday afternoon. (more…)

WASHINGTON — First lady Michelle Obama’s speech Tuesday evening at a private Democratic National Committee fundraiser was interrupted by a protester, who demanded equality for gays and lesbians.

About 12 minutes into Obama’s 20-minute speech, a woman standing at the front of the crowd began yelling for an executive order on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights.

“One of the things that I don’t do well is this,” replied Obama to loud applause. She left the lectern and approached the protester, inviting the woman to “listen to me, or you can take the mic, but I’m leaving. You all decide. You have one choice.”

The crowd shouted that they wanted Obama to stay, and one woman near the protester said, “You need to go!” (more…)

WASHINGTON DC – Ondray Harris, the African-American executive director of the Public Employee Relations Board of the District of Columbia, stepped down last week.

His resignation letter provides a disturbing look at alleged discriminatory and partisan conduct by the members of the board tasked with overseeing labor issues and the D.C. government’s relations with public employees. (more…)
