HOUSTON (AP) — Floodwaters kept rising Tuesday across much of Texas as storms dumped almost another foot of rain on the Houston area, stranding hundreds of motorists and inundating the famously congested highways that serve the nation’s fourth-largest city.

Meanwhile, the search went on for 30 people who were missing after flooding along the Blanco River in Central Texas, including a group of people who disappeared after a vacation home was swept down the river and slammed into a bridge.
Houston authorities recovered three more bodies from the floodwaters — two of them in the city and a third in a vehicle on Interstate 45. That brought to 11 the number of people killed by the holiday weekend storms in Oklahoma and Texas.
The water continued rising overnight as the area received about 11 more inches, much of it in a six-hour period. (more…)

Wimberley Texas Devastated – 12 People Missing, Including Families, In Massive Texas Flood…

The Blanco River water rose 40 feet, yes, FORTY FEET, so fast that people never had time to evacuate.  Homes wiped out, many feared dead, a dozen people missing. (Raw OMG Video Below of Aftermath)

(Via AP) “It looks pretty bad out there,” Hays County emergency management coordinator Kharley Smith said of Wimberley, where an estimated 350 to 400 homes were destroyed. “We do have whole streets with maybe one or two houses left on them and the rest are just slabs.”

About 1,000 homes were damaged throughout Hays County, which includes Wimberley. Five San Marcos police cars were washed away, and the firehouse was flooded, said Kristi Wyatt, a spokeswoman for San Marcos.
Rivers swelled so quickly that whole communities awoke Sunday surrounded by water. The Blanco crested above 40 feet — more than triple its flood stage of 13 feet. The river swamped Interstate 35 and forced parts of the busy north-south highway to close. Rescuers used pontoon boats and a helicopter to pull people out. (more…)

California Begins Construction of Water Stasi – Ministry for State Water Security Creating Program For Neighbors To Turn-In Other Neighbors….

Dear Citizens of Kalifornia, Comrade Governor Jerry Brown has signed emergency power authority to control water use due to an excessive drought in the state.  Part of that alarming reality was an admission by Governor Brown that citizens would be fined heavily for taking too long a shower.

Many non-California readers responded to the news with questions about how California was going to be able to enforce the length of a shower, or the use of water within the construct of personal activity taking place in the privacy of a citizen’s home.

Today some clarity begins to emerge.

California is currently creating a program for neighbors to turn-in other neighbors who are deemed to be in violation of the State Water use emergency laws.  (more…)

“I almost gave up … But I couldn’t give up. I had to do it for my boys, my family,” he said. “I think it’s a miracle that I’m alive.”
Johnson, 38, said he had to crawl back to the thicker part of the ice as his snowmobile sank.
“Everything just happened so fast,” he said. (more…)

Guided Rescue With Great Ending…

Well Past Midnight – While looking for a couple of kids missing in the neighborhood a cop spotted a partially buried shovel sticking out from a massive pile of snow almost 10′ high.  The cop pulled out the shovel, then decided to dig a bit – he found nothing.
Something, just a sense, he can’t quite describe it in interviews, nagged him a little, and an internal whisper told him to just try digging a little deeper, so he did.   He dug a bit more, a little deeper, deeper still….
and spotted a boot…
a-prayer-for-times-like-these(CNN) — Two little boys have something to be thankful for this year following their rescue after spending hours buried under a pile of snow in New York.
The boys, ages 9 and 7, were building a fort Wednesday evening when a snow plow came through a parking lot near their homes in Newburgh.
It pushed even more of the white stuff into the snowbank in which they were playing, leaving them trapped underneath the snow for several hours, according to police. (more…)

California Fire Leads To 20,000 Homes Evacuated…

20,000 “California” homes and it leads the AP Newswires !   Back in 2011 Texas was battling its worst fire season in state history. A record 3.5 million acres — an area roughly the size of Connecticut was burned — and AP seemed to scarcely consider.

SAN DIEGO (AP) – Wildfires pushed by gusty winds chewed through canyons parched by California’s drought, prompting evacuation orders for more than 20,000 homes on the outskirts of San Diego and another 1,200 homes and businesses in Santa Barbara County 250 miles to the north.

No homes were reported damaged in either fire, but hundreds were considered threatened. The rugged terrain and unseasonably warm temperatures made firefighting even more difficult.

The flames that erupted in the fire-prone Rancho Bernardo area of San Diego quickly grew to 700 acres, driven by hot, dry Santa Ana winds that whipped through areas dotted by hilltop estates and pricey new housing tracts. (more…)
