We were alerted (via e-mail) to a three part video from sheriff in Kentucky who talked to a group about his opinion/plan/approach regarding federal intervention toward gun control in his county of Jackson in Kentucky.     [We’ll provide a recap video here, and links to the 3 part series after the video].

Sheriff’s opinions are of particular interest to me because they are the TOP constitutional officer in every region.   Often  I come across people who are not aware of the power of the County Sheriff.  Power bestowed upon them by the authority of their position under the U.S. Constitution.    They have far more constitutional power than judges or other elected officials;  and if needed, the country sheriff can arrest any Judge, Mayor, City Police Chief, or even the State Governor or any Federal agent who crosses the county line.  Keep that in mind when you listen to this video provided:

NEW YORK (AP) – Senator Charles Schumer says retailers that sell assault weapons should stop offering them for purchase while Congress discusses gun regulation legislation.

Schumer on Sunday released a letter he sent to major retailers asking for a voluntary moratorium.   The New York Democrat says consumer demand for guns has gone up in the weeks since the December mass shooting in Newtown, Conn.  Schumer says Congress is debating the issue, and if measures get passed that limit these type of weapons, it won’t help if more of them have recently been sold. Progressive and intolerant Colin Powell has the whole gun debate figured out:  “why can’t we just test everybody” before they are allowed to own a firearm?

There’s those pesky “Bill of Rights” thingy’s again.   Maybe we could test before allowing voting rights.  Or, well,  maybe a stability test before free speech expression, or religious affiliation.

What’s that, those other rights can’t kill people?  Really?  Think about that.

And NO, driving is not a “right”, so testing is not an appropriate comparison.   And if you cannot see the slippery slope to ownership of ice-cream purchasing based in physical exam and BMI (Body Mass Index) then you really don’t connect dots that well. (more…)

WASHINGTON — Just two days before Vice President Joe Biden delivers a comprehensive set of recommendations on gun policy, National Rifle Association President David Keene rejected the reported outline of suggestions Sunday and dismissed any ban on assault weapons or high-capacity magazines as a non-starter.

“We don’t think any of those things work,” he said in appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “You should absolutely be able to compromise on things that accomplish the purpose. Our objection to those things is that they interfere with people’s rights without doing anything to solve the problem.” (more…)

You might have read, or received, an e-mail from gun rights enthusiasts with the following story:

You’re sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door. Half-awake, and nearly paralyzed with fear, you hear muffled whispers. At least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way. With your heart pumping, you reach down beside your bed and pick up your shotgun. You rack a shell into the chamber, then inch toward the door and open it…

In the darkness, you make out two shadows. One holds something that looks like a crowbar. When the intruder brandishes it as if to strike, you raise the shotgun and fire. The blast knocks both thugs to the floor. One writhes and screams while the second man crawls to the front door and lurches outside.

As you pick up the telephone to call police, you know you’re in trouble. In your country, most guns were outlawed years before, and the few that are privately owned are so stringently regulated as to make them useless..

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -Armed with a gun and ready to shoot, a Shawnee woman defended her home as man broke down her door. It happened in broad daylight and she didn’t back down.

Pam Loman and her husband, James, say they’ve lived on Homer Lane in Shawnee for over 10 years and have never had any problems. But early Friday afternoon, while Pam was home alone, she quickly figured out, three men outside her home were up to no good.

“I still feel queasy sick at my stomach, a little shaky, a little nervous,” Pam said.

Pam was cleaning her home Friday afternoon when she heard someone knocking at her front door.

“One was knocking on the door, but there was two in the car. So I thought that was kind of strange, and they looked a little scary,” she said. (more…)

Um, toldyaso…   The architect of the Oval Office defense behind Fast and Furious, AND the architect of the Benghazi defense, Denis McDonough, is going to be rewarded with the office overlooking the Don Regan patio.

(Via The Hill) President Obama is leaning toward choosing Denis McDonough, currently a deputy national security adviser, as his next chief of staff, sources told Bloomberg.

McDonough, who worked on Obama’s 2008 campaign, is considered deeply loyal to the president. He was a longtime congressional aide who worked for Obama when he was a freshman senator. McDonough also served as foreign policy adviser to then-Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle (S.D.) and legislative director to then-Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.), who is now the secretary of the Interior. (more…)

I didn’t want to post about this, because frankly, it is exhausting. I’ve been having this exact same argument for my entire adult life. It is not an exaggeration when I say that I know pretty much exactly every single thing an anti-gun person can say. I’ve heard it over and over, the same old tired stuff, trotted out every single time there is a tragedy on the news that can be milked. Yet, I got sucked in, and I’ve spent the last few days arguing with people who either mean well but are uninformed about gun laws and how guns actually work (who I don’t mind at all), or the willfully ignorant (who I do mind), or the obnoxiously stupid who are completely incapable of any critical thinking deeper than a Facebook meme (them, I can’t stand).

Today’s blog post is going to be aimed at the first group. I am going to try to go through everything I’ve heard over the last few days, and try to break it down from my perspective. My goal tonight is to write something that my regular readers will be able to share with their friends who may not be as familiar with how mass shootings or gun control laws work. (more…)
