“Technically speaking, it’s more like fascism. Socialism is where the government owns the means of production. In fascism, the government doesn’t own the means of production, but they do control it — and that’s what’s happening with our health care programs and these reforms.” (more…)

You keep hearing *them* in the gun control movement use the term “no-one is saying that” in regard to complete gun confiscation.   Why?  Because they need to seem more moderate than the argument they support.   Yes, indeed people are saying that…. yes.

Essentially… The Last Refuge (Treehouse) position has been sharing information, and connecting dots about gun control, based on historical research references into the ideological goals of the progressive left surrounding President Obama.

While we each have individual opinions on all the various aspects of gun ownership, that point, meaning our opinion, is essentially moot in regard to sharing this information.   The aspect we share is predictive in nature – meaning:

• ‘who are they’
• ‘what are they doing’
• ‘why are they doing it’, and…
• ‘what they will do’.

The economy, jobs, homelessness, hunger, inflationary impact of a diminished dollar, housing, energy costs, the price of gasoline, burdensome tax rates and a nation in financial crisis are irrelevant to President Obama.   FIRST, ACCEPT THAT.   They do not care about that stuff – it is an annoyance and irrelevant to the “why” behind their goals. Originally we wrote this post in March 2012 in response to the continuing crisis that surrounds this administration, and consequently our nation, on a daily basis.

This is, in a larger sense, all purpose driven.

People often talk about and reference Rahm Emanuel’s famous quote: “never let a good crisis go to waste“;   But fewer people actually connect those words to the ideology behind them.

Fabian Socialists became modern Progressives, and comfort in crisis is essential to their goals. Crisis becomes the “new normal” in the world of anyone, or any nation, as they suffer the impact from association with progressives.

When you understand it, you understand what Candidate Obama meant when he proclaimed: “we are 3 days away from the fundamental transformation of America“!

Yesterday, on Meet The Press, President Obama used the word “fundamental” again.

“Something fundamental in America has to change,” said Obama, who visited on December 16 with families of victims of the Newtown, Connecticut, school shootings.  (link)

( Today ) President Obama on Sunday said he would make gun control a priority in his new term, pledging to put his “full weight” behind passing new restrictions on firearms in 2013.

“I’m going to be putting forward a package and I’m going to be putting my full weight behind it,” Obama said in an interview aired on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I’m going to be making an argument to the American people about why this is important and why we have to do everything we can to make sure that something like what happened at Sandy Hook Elementary does not happen again.” (more…)

WASHINGTON DC – While the U.S. government commits senseless acts like skimping on consulate security in violent North African countries, it spends $500 million to help minorities—especially blacks—enter biomedical research fields where lack of diversity is “disturbing and disheartening.”

The grand plan was announced this month by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the nation’s medical research agency. As part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the NIH doles out north of $31 billion annually to hundreds of thousands of researchers at thousands of universities and institutions around the globe. WASHINGTON DC – Sixteen Democratic senators who voted for the Affordable Care Act are asking that one of its fundraising mechanisms, a 2.3 percent tax on medical devices scheduled to take effect January 1, be delayed.  Echoing arguments made by Republicans against Obamacare, the Democratic senators say the levy will cost jobs — in a statement Monday, Sen. Al Franken called it a “job-killing tax” — and also impair American competitiveness in the medical device field.

The senators, who made the request in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, are Franken, Richard Durbin, Charles Schumer, Patty Murray, John Kerry, Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, Joseph Lieberman, Ben Nelson, Robert Casey, Debbie Stabenow, Barbara Mikulski, Kay Hagan, Herb Kohl, Jeanne Shaheen, and Richard Blumenthal.  All voted for Obamacare. Well here’s another one – Obamacare Pre-Existing Condition Fee To Cost Companies $63 Per Person – Your medical plan is facing an unexpected expense, so you probably are, too. It’s a new, $63-per-head fee to cushion the cost of covering people with pre-existing conditions under President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul.

The charge, buried in a recent regulation, works out to tens of millions of dollars for the largest companies, employers say. Most of that is likely to be passed on to workers.

Employee benefits lawyer Chantel Sheaks calls it a “sleeper issue” with significant financial consequences, particularly for large employers.

“Especially at a time when we are facing economic uncertainty, (companies will) be hit with a multi-million dollar assessment without getting anything back for it,” said Sheaks, a principal at Buck Consultants, a Xerox subsidiary.

Based on figures provided in the regulation, employer and individual health plans covering an estimated 190 million Americans could owe the per-person fee. (more…)

Listen closely to how the media and the administration are talking about Medicare “overall”.   Listen to them begin to talk about how structurally flawed it is – not just financially, but in substantive structure.

Creeping control.  Listen.

Listen to them, the administration and the media, describe the fraud that exists within the Medicare program.  Listen to the specific word choices.

Listen as they describe the feasibility of cutting the cost of Medicare by addressing the payment side (reimbursement) of the equation, and how they will NOT have to increase payments into the program.   Listen to how they maintain the premise that Medicare Program is structurally sound – it just needs “tweaking”, and they can cut the “overall” cost of the medicare program without hitting the beneficiaries up for increased contribution rates or structural changes to the program.

$18.7 Trillion deficit (ceiling raised goal +2.5 Trillion) and they can simultaneously “save” the Medicare program.   That’s what they’ll sell.   Watch and listen closely while understanding the following: (more…)

His speech will likely extol the virtues of “Obamacare,” and engage in scare tactics about conservative proposals to make  Medicare sustainable. But here are five facts you’re unlikely to hear from the  president, or AARP, about how each treats seniors:

First, while AARP poses as a disinterested senior advocate, it functions as  an insurance conglomerate, with a liberal lobbying arm on the side. AARP depends  on profits, royalties and commissions to make up more than 50 percent of its  annual revenues. Membership dues from seniors account for only about 20 percent.  The sums involved aren’t chump change: AARP’s $458 million in health insurance  revenue in 2011 would rank it as the nation’s sixth most profitable health  insurer.
