TRIPOLI, Libya — The corridors of Tripoli’s five-star hotels are filled with suave rebel leaders in smart suits giving interview to the foreign media and meeting with foreign dignitaries. But at the checkpoints around the country and at the mopping up operations against the last Gaddafi strongholds, it’s Islamists who are in command.

During the six-month civil war, Islamists were on the frontlines in the eastern Libyan town of Benghazi and in the western mountains, leading inexperienced youth in bloody battles that resulted, with the help of NATO, to oust Gaddafi. We’ve shared multiple reports of the Surface to Air Missiles (SAM’s) being spread throughout N-Africa by al-Qaeda and the al-Shabaab faction.   20 thousand advanced technology missiles is enough to place a no fly zone over all of europe if strategically placed.  In addition from the al-Shabaab branch of Somali al-Qaeda members have been arrested crossing the border from Mexico into the United States.   There is a known and significant al-Shabaab presence currently training in Mexico – this same group has been identified with Stinger missiles in N-Africa stolen from Libya…  There may soon be a No-Fly Zone over the Western United States….
(CNN) — A potent stash of Russian-made surface-to-air missiles is missing from a huge Tripoli weapons warehouse amid reports of weapons looting across war-torn Libya.  They are Grinch SA-24 shoulder-launched missiles, also known as Igla-S missiles, the equivalent of U.S.-made Stinger missiles. The National Transitional Council reportedly said it had confirmed that Khamis had died in fighting close to Tripoli and was buried near Bani Walid, Gaddafi’s last stronghold, which on Sunday was besieged by the rebels. No further details have yet been reported. Khamis’s death has been reported at least twice throughout the uprising. Gaddafi’s fifth son, born in 1983, was head of the 32nd Reinforced Brigade, known as the “Khamis Brigade”, heavily armed and strictly trained. Almost immediately after Mubarak was overthrown, the transitional government led by the Egyptian military lifted its ban on Egyptian Islamic Jihad (same group Ayman al-Zawahiri once presided over), which is now a legal political party that is running in the upcoming elections.   (MEMRI) — On August 13, 2011, the Egyptian daily Roz Al-Yousef published an interview with Sheikh ‘Adel Shehato, a senior official in Egyptian Islamic Jihad (EIJ), who, on March 23, 2011, was freed from prison in the wake of the Egyptian revolution. There are literally dozens and dozens of Treehouse articles on Egypt and Libya available via the drop down category links on the right side of this page (great job StellaP and Ad rem).   From the moment the entire situation in Egypt began we categorized factual first hand reports of the elements behind, and taking advantage of, the uprisings.     Despite the claims of Western media, which coincidently quickly diminished from visibility when CBS reporter Lara Logan was brutally raped in Tahrir Square, Egypt is a far cry from a freedom loving crew of Facebookers yearning to be free.
A more apt description is a resurgence of radical islamic sentiment and a return to Muslim Brotherhood supported ‘sharia compliant’ muslim society.   The young facebookers were merely useful pawns in drawing Western support toward their goals.   By using internationally visible psychological operations to create their curtain of false optics the radical elements are working diligently to advance their cause.   This cause specifically also includes Egypt’s Western border neighbor, Libya. (originally posted March 31st) Readers of this site know that I try to refrain from I Told You So’s… But this one is so friggin obvious and I have litterally been verbally flogged, and told I was an intellectual dumbass over my prediction, that I am taking a friggin liberty and reposting this thread I wrote in MARCH – 5 flippin months ago – Yeah, it’s gonna be a flippin replay of Somalia, and now some military commanders are openly worrying stating as such.    Toldyaso !
 

As each day passes it looks like  Quackdaffy can outlast this rebellion even with a UN ‘No Fly Zone’.   UNLESS some  country puts boots on the ground.   Looking with worry at the ebb and flow of this Libyan war  strong similarities to the 1993-1995 Mogadishu/Somalia Quagmire become ever more visible.   Let’s hope to heck we don’t get drawn further into this, but the latest development with Obama “authorizing” covert military operations just screams for  comparisons to historical failures.   Let us choose one.  Just  one…..  (more…)

Great job NATO – For many readers of this site this “revelation” will come as no surprise.  The Libyan rebels have sold arms to al-Qaeda North Africa and al-Qaeda Arabian Peninsular, appointed radical sharia compliant Islamists as their spokespeople, beheaded the opposition captured prisoners of war, and openly accepted assistance and advice from the Muslim Brotherhood.   Yet the Western Media have sold an entirely divergent narrative.
Libyan Draft Constitution: Sharia Is “Principal Source Of Legislation”  (The Foundry) — The dust has not yet settled over the Libyan capital of Tripoli since rebels took control over the weekend. But already, a draft constitutional charter for the transitional state has appeared online (embedded below). It is just a draft, mind you, and gauging its authenticity at this point is difficult. There is also no way to know whether this draft or something similar will emerge as the final governing document for a new Libyan regime. (more…)

Ohhhh there’s a shocker, history repeats…. Duh, this is soooo typically French, they were the primary country begging every other NATO country to enter war with them, and here they are once again ready to cut out before the check arrives..…  (Sun) — The French yesterday sensationally insisted military action in Libya must end.  It came as President Nicolas Sarkozy made a surprise visit to French troops in Afghanistan – to announce 1,000 will be pulled out by the end of 2012.   France said the Nato bombing campaign in Libya could not oust Colonel Gaddafi and diplomacy was the only solution – even if it meant the tyrant retaining limited power. (MADRID) –  Smugglers may be selling sophisticated Libyan army weapons to Al-Qaeda’s offshoot in north Africa’s Sahel region, Spain  warned Thursday after a US-European security meeting in Madrid.
News out of a Madrid meeting between Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and European interior ministers is that there are new worries that Libyan government arms might be flowing to al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM). According to Spain’s interior minister, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, “There is arms trafficking at the border between Libya and Mali and this has to worry us because it could at this moment be supplying sophisticated weapons, which are therefore dangerous, to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.” And, “If we don’t do anything, AQIM could take advantage of this situation to grow, and if AQIM grows so will the risks faced by Europe and the United States.” (more…)
