Pinch me…… This is not a typo, the French, as in France, the country of, are using fighter jets to attack al-Qaeda in North Africa.    The French are engaged in active military operations against Islamists in Mali.   Did I mention this is France doing this…..

Who would have thought that France would be fighting al-Qaeda and the United States would be providing al-Qaeda weapons (Syria) while claiming they are gone.  All the while an American Abassador is dragged through the streets and al-Qaeda flags hoisted atop U.S. embassies, and we do……..  ?

John Kerry for Secretary of State, Chuck Hagel for Defense Secretary, Jack Lew for Treasury and John O Brennan for CIA Director….   Sheeesh…. Wake me up in five years,… but only if I can still buy asprin with dollars.

(Reuters) — French aircraft pounded Islamist rebels in Mali for a second day on Saturday and neighboring West African states sped up their plans to deploy troops in an international campaign to prevent groups linked to al Qaeda expanding their power base.

France, warning that the control of northern Mali by the militants posed a security threat to Europe, intervened dramatically on Friday as heavily armed Islamist fighters swept southwards towards Mali’s capital Bamako. (more…)

Um, toldyaso…   The architect of the Oval Office defense behind Fast and Furious, AND the architect of the Benghazi defense, Denis McDonough, is going to be rewarded with the office overlooking the Don Regan patio.

(Via The Hill) President Obama is leaning toward choosing Denis McDonough, currently a deputy national security adviser, as his next chief of staff, sources told Bloomberg.

McDonough, who worked on Obama’s 2008 campaign, is considered deeply loyal to the president. He was a longtime congressional aide who worked for Obama when he was a freshman senator. McDonough also served as foreign policy adviser to then-Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle (S.D.) and legislative director to then-Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.), who is now the secretary of the Interior. (more…)

Someone help me out with something. What is the difference between “universal background checks” and “a national gun registry”?

(Via HuffPo WASHINGTON)  — Just days before Vice President Joe Biden issues a sweeping series of recommendations on gun policy Tuesday, the outline of his suggestions is coming into focus.

Multiple sources close to the talks tell The Huffington Post that the vice president will make universal background checks for all gun purchases the “top priority” of his suggestions. The idea has broad support among politicians in the wake of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, as well as backing from some traditionally pro-gun rights voices. The clearest sign that background checks will be the centerpiece of the Biden recommendations, however, is that a number of gun control advocacy groups have also deemed it such, as opposed to focusing their efforts on higher-profile measures, such as those that would limit the types of guns available for purchase. Mid December we hosted an article about a statement made by Eric Holder where he said:

 “As a nation I think we have to ask ourselves some hard questions. We gather too often to talk about these kinds of incidents. We need to discuss who we are as a nation, talk about the freedoms that we have, the rights that we have and how those might be used in a responsible way.”  (link)

Today several places have cited links to this 1995 presentation where Holder says they  must “brainwash” the citizenry to think of gun ownership the same way that people think about cigarette smokers – cowered in embarassment outside of buildings:

You just can’t make this stuff up.

President Obama has been called out, well, sort of, by the ideologues and progressives for a lack of diversity in his inner circle, including Cabinet appointments. After all, this was candidate Obama who ran on a platform of the other side being devoid of diversity and a “war on women”. So to see all white males around him is horrid optics for his advocates.

Yet, the reality is what it is.

Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) on Thursday called it “embarrassing as hell” that President Barack Obama is facing charges that his White House lacks diversity.

“It’s embarrassing as hell. We’ve been through all of this with [2012 GOP presidential nominee] Mitt Romney. And we were very hard with Mitt Romney with the women binder and a variety of things,” Rangel said on MSNBC. “And I kind of think there’s no excuse with the second term.”  (link) (more…)

WASHINGTON DC – President Obama has picked Myrlie Evers-Williams, widow of slain civil rights icon Medgar Evers, to deliver the invocation at his public swearing-in later this month. It is believed to be the first time a woman, and a layperson rather than a clergy member, has been chosen to deliver what may be America’s most prominent public prayer.

The inaugural committee Tuesday plans to announce that the benediction will be given by conservative evangelical pastor Louie Giglio, founder of the student-focused Passion Conferences, which draw tens of thousands of people to events around the world. (more…)

If anyone wants to go back and look at historical references to Germany circa 1933/1934 this is profoundly similar in ideology.    Jewish Mayor Ed Koch supported, and endorsed, candidate Obama even though he knew Obama was hateful toward Israel.   Koch, says he figured Obama would win, so it would be better to support him and maybe Obama would go easier ‘on his’ people after the endorsement.

It’s like we’ve entered a time-warp back to the time of Dietrich Bonhoeffer:

In Discussing HAGEL – I admire former Mayor Ed Koch’s willingness to break with his own party on issues of principle, but his comments to the Algemeiner today are mind-boggling. In between some very strong denunciations of the Chuck Hagel nomination, Koch casually let it drop that he suspected Obama would abandon his pro-Israel positions after the election. The former mayor, of course, endorsed Obama’s reelection and served as one of his surrogates to the pro-Israel community: (more…)
