(Huffington Idjits) Less than one week after the mass shooting which left 12 dead at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., the Denver Post reports background checks for people wanting to purchase firearms in the state have jumped more than 41 percent.

“It’s been insane,” Rocky Mountain Guns and Ammo employee Jake Meyers told the paper, saying there were already 15-20 people waiting outside the store when he arrived at work Friday morning, just hours after the massacre.

Over the weekend, the Colorado Bureau of Investigations approved 2,887 background checks for people seeking to purchase a firearm, according to the Post.

The spike follows an example set in Arizona, where gun sales soared following a shooting which left six dead and 13 wounded, including Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, according to Bloomberg.

That report cited data from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, which found one-day sales of handguns in Arizona jumped 60 percent two days after the shooting. (more…)

Three punks in Chicago murder a 62-year-old disabled man while playing the knock out game.  A “game where the offender picks an innocent victim and knocks him out by striking him and likely robbing him as well,” Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Terry Clancy told Judge Israel Desierto in court Monday.

CHICAGO – Three teenagers accused of killing a 62-year-old father-of-12 in West Rogers Park were playing a game called “Pick ‘em out and knock ‘em down” when they videotaped themselves punching him in the face, prosecutors say.

Malik Jones, 16, Nicholas Ayala, 17, and Anthony Malcolm, 18, were caught after the video of Jones fatally punching Delfino Mora was posted on Jones’ Facebook page, according to authorities.

The three were playing a “game where the offender picks an innocent victim and knocks him out by striking him and likely robbing him as well,” Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Terry Clancy told Judge Israel Desierto in court Monday. (more…)

HatTip Sibiljx On the heels of multiple recent stories that show clearly ABC News being manipulative and inept.   Today the Colorado Shooter’s Mom blasts ABC for lying about her initial statement to them.   Still feeling the shame and embarassment from being caught intentionally lying about the identity of the Shooter, and a false Tea Party connection,  ABC lashes back at Mrs. Holmes.

COLORADO – Arlene Holmes, the mother of Colorado theater shooting suspect James Holmes, has suggested that ABC News mischaracterized her when it reported that her initial statement to the reporter, “you have the right person,” was a reference to her son.
“This statement is to clarify a statement made by ABC media. I was awakened by a call from a reporter by ABC on July 20 about 5:45 in the morning. I did not know anything about a shooting in Aurora at that time,” Holmes said in a statement this afternoon, read to the national press by attorney Lisa Damiani. “He asked if I was Arlene Holmes and if my son was James Holmes who lives in Aurora, Colorado. I answered yes, you have the right person. I was referring to myself.”

“I asked him to tell me why he was calling and he told me about a shooting in Aurora,” she continues. “He asked for a comment. I told him I could not comment because I did not know if the person he was talking about was my son, and I would need to find out.” (more…)

(Woody Woodpecker – CSM) Looking dazed and with bright orange hair, the man accused of killing 12 and wounding 58 in a shooting rampage in a Colorado theater appeared Monday in court for the first time.

James Holmes, wide-eyed and unshaven, his head bobbing slightly, appeared not to speak during the brief hearing. He will be formally charged next Monday.
Authorities say the 24-year-old former graduate student is refusing to cooperate, and it could take months to learn what prompted one of the worst mass shootings in U.S. history. (more…)

On the heels of Sean Hannity’s interview with George Zimmerman, MSNBC defends itself against the accusation that they, in general, and Al Sharpton specifically, did not “rush to judgement” in the Trayvon Martin shooting.

Here is the official MSNBC position as told to Politico:

“MSNBC would like to set the record straight following some misinformation presented by Fox News during the interview with George Zimmerman last night,” MSNBC wrote in a statement sent to POLITICO. “Reverend Al Sharpton never ‘rushed to judgment,’ as stated by Mr. Hannity. Reverend Sharpton repeatedly called for calm and for a more thorough investigation in the wake of the tragic events. Ultimately, the authorities agreed an arrest was warranted.”

Most of the time I can’t stand the guy but Bill O’Reilly respectfully touched on the controversy over the parents bringing children and babies to a movie theater at midnight to watch a Batman movie.  One six year-old girl was murdered at the Aurora theater by madman James Holmes.  A three month-old baby was also at the theater with his father.  The baby was released today.
