NEW ORLEANS — Tornado warnings have been issued for New Orleans and its surrounding areas as heavy rains from Tropical Storm Lee began falling in southern Louisiana Saturday.
The storm’s center is trudging slowly toward land, where businesses were already beginning to suffer on what would normally be a bustling holiday weekend. The storm could bring as many as 20 inches of rain to some areas. (more…)

I’m not so crazy about what I’m seeing and hearing (lame excuse for the media being what it is) lately. Demoncrat talking points have been that the TEA Party is a terrorist organization; Her Highness Maxine Waters wishes them in hell, and some Circus Clownshow Congresswoman in a red plastic cowboy hat calls them racists; radio/t.v. memes have been that the wonderful yoots of this generation are going to have to support the worthless baby-boomers in the manner to which they have become accustomed, and that’s damned-sure-unfair to the yoots, so (more…)

Abraham Lincoln surely never thought he’d be the man to shepherd a divided nation through a bloody Civil War. Franklin D. Roosevelt came into an economic crisis and then, after a fateful December day, wound up managing the United States in a conflict that spanned the globe.
George W. Bush intended to be the “education president,” continuing with reforms he’d started while governor of Texas.
But while sitting in an elementary-school classroom in Florida on Sept. 11, 2001, listening to a lesson, he was given the news that a second airliner had crashed into the World Trade Center towers in lower Manhattan.
