Treehouse Hits The 20,000,000 Mark!

tree-houseThe Last Refuge – officially, The Conservative Treehouse – celebrated its third anniversary on February 1, 2014.  Now it’s time for another celebration (and we love celebrations) as we welcome our 20,000,000th visitor!

The Tree has been approached over twenty million times, tapped for information, moved into for refuge and signed up for learning.
Twenty million times someone has said, “Self, let’s check out the Treehouse and see what’s up.”
Twenty million times someone perhaps said, “I saw that link—wonder what they’re up to….”  (more…)

The Last Great Race On Earth

In a little less than 11 days, on March 1, the Iditarod race will begin.  The Iditarod is an exciting dog-sled race from Anchorage to Nome – a total distance of 975 miles.  It is exciting even in our modern, perhaps jaded, view, but the story behind this race is historic.

route_northern1Alaska in winter can be a treacherous place.  The modern race is as safe as it can be made, with regular checkpoints, where supplies have been pre-placed, and mushers and their dogs can rest along the way.

The original “Iditarod” was another matter, indeed.

Mike Rowe, Walmart, and the return of American Manufacturing

I love Mike Rowe.  I’ve been following him on Facebook for a while now, and he seems to be a practical, logical guy who loves this country.

This past week, Mike has been involved in a controversy over a commercial voice-over that he did for Walmart that ran the other night during the coverage of the Olympics.    Here’s the video, called, “I am A Factory”, in case you missed it (I did):
