Earlier today the family rescued by George Zimmerman made the decision to back out of a previously scheduled press conference. Why? The Seminole City Sheriff’s Office said, “The family have expressed to us that they are not comfortable doing media interviews at this time and they continue to ask for privacy.” O’Mara said they were afraid of the repercussions if they were to go on TV and call George Zimmerman a hero. Oh, and just to keep it real….they’ve also changed their phone number.
Meanwhile…..The Martin family feels free to attend public rallies, make TV appearances, and even speak on Capitol Hill.
Here…Mark O’Mara addresses skeptics who think the rescue was a public relations stunt.
“I will acknowledge it was coincidental four or five days after the verdict, but it was not set up, or staged. Really, do you think we would’ve set up a family of four on the side (of the road), destroying an SUV?” said O’Mara.
O’Mara said deputies, firefighters and the victims all identified him as being on the scene. “Those who want to believe it’s staged, they can go ahead and believe that. They can believe the earth is flat,” he said. O’Mara said Zimmerman was with someone when he pulled over to help. He said the car was teetering and Zimmerman helped open the doors or windows to get them out.
Zimmerman has been in hiding since he was released from jail last July and has only been seen in public during his trial.
