DH had a doctor’s appt about a mile from this mall early this afternoon.   We had intended to shop at the Barnes and Noble store in the mall after the appointment, the B/N is about 100 yards from the Macy’s front door. If we had gone at the time we had available to us, we would have been there.   It’s so stunning to realize that many (like us) were spared even the trauma of being in the vicinity….and others are struggling through the evening hours, unable yet to hear from loved ones or inside the mall yet perhaps in hiding.   The gunman was wearing body armor and a hockey mask.   The police are searching store by store to locate those still frightened and concealing themselves.

Life is fragile, is it not.

OREGON – According to preliminary reports, a man with a semiautomatic rifle opened fire near Macy’s around 3:29 p.m. (Pacific) The man, who may have been wearing body armor and camouflage clothing, also was seen near the mall’s food court.

John Canzano, sports columnist for The Oregonian, reported that as many as 60 shots were fired while he was shopping at the mall.  Canzano said he first noticed people “running out of the mall kind of crying and upset.” He stopped a person who said “somebody has an automatic weapon and is shooting.” (more…)

George Zimmerman has filed a civil lawsuit against NBC, Ron Allen and Jeff Burnside.

[…]  What happened that night was a tragedy: a tragedy that NBC exploited, creating an opportunity for profit. I am holding NBC accountable for its actions. If NBC had not spread lies and falsifications about me, this lawsuit would not exist. This lawsuit is a product of NBC’s intentional distortion of facts. I do not know, because of my situation, how I will be able to provide for my wife and myself in the future, and so I expect NBC to be held responsible. The unjustified public persecution of me because of NBC’s actions is wrong. It shouldn’t have happened to me, and it shouldn’t happen to anyone.

In the last several months, the prosecutors have released evidence regarding this case, and the evidence speaks for itself regarding my innocence. As this lawsuit moves forward, I hope the existence of this exonerating evidence will be broadcast with at least a fraction of the publicity afforded to the lies and misrepresentations. I deserve that and those who have been misinformed deserve that. However, that will be up to the ethical journalists who will spread the truth without regard or concern for political or social pressure.

Thanksgiving 2022

“Winston, come into the dining room, it’s time to eat,” Julia yelled to her husband. “In a minute, honey, it’s a tie score,” he answered. Actually Winston wasn’t very interested in the traditional holiday football game between Detroit and Washington.

Ever since the government passed the Civility in Sports Statute of 2017, outlawing tackle football for its “unseemly violence” and the “bad example it sets for the rest of the world,” Winston was far less of a football fan than he used to be. Two-hand touch wasn’t nearly as exciting.

Yet it wasn’t the game that Winston was uninterested in. It was more the thought of eating another Tofu Turkey. Even though it was the best type of Veggie Meat available after the government revised the American Anti-Obesity Act of 2018, adding fowl to the list of federally-forbidden foods, (which already included potatoes, cranberry sauce and mince-meat pie), it wasn’t anything like real turkey.

And ever since the government officially changed the name of “Thanksgiving Day” to “A National Day of Atonement” in 2020 to officially acknowledge the Pilgrims’ historically brutal treatment of Native Americans, the holiday had lost a lot of its luster. (more…)

Best Part – Mark O’Mara’s “Clarance Darrow-ish” presentation. Brilliant, compelling, will go into the history books as the state of media and public participation in 2012, versus Angela Corey-Nifong, who can”t stand the Internet talking smack about her.
