[TRANSCRIPT ] 2:28 P.M. IDT – PRESIDENT TRUMP: Thank you very much. It’s very nice. And thank you to Prime Minister Netanyahu. And I also want to thank Sara for hosting us last night in really a very unforgettable dinner. We had a great time. We talked about a lot of very, very important things. And thank you to Ambassador David Friedman and Mrs. Friedman for joining us, along with a number of very good friends who have come from our country to yours, as we reaffirm the unshakable bond between the United States of America and Israel. Thank you. (Applause.)
President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered remarks at Yad Vashem a holocaust memorial hall of remembrance.
[TRANSCRIPT] 1:27 P.M. IDT – PRESIDENT TRUMP: Thank you, Prime Minister Netanyahu, Sara Netanyahu, Chairman Avner Shalev, and Rabbi Israel Meir Lau for hosting us for this moving wreath-laying ceremony.
We are here at Yad Vashem to honor the memory of six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust. Two-thirds of the Jews in Europe were sent to their deaths. Words can never describe the bottomless depths of that evil, or the scope of the anguish and destruction.
At The Israel Museum, accompanied by his wife, Melania, and daughter and son-in-law Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump laid a wreath of remembrance to honor the memories of those lost during the holocaust.
Together with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Trump and our First Lady were accompanied by two United States Marines in formal dress in honor of the dead. A very moving ceremony:
Together with his family and diplomatic team, U.S. President Donald Trump became the first president to visit Jerusalem’s Western Wall on Monday. President Trump stood before the holiest place where Jews are permitted to pray before inserting a note between the monumental stones.
President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were accompanied by the Rabbi of the Western Wall, Shmuel Rabinowitz, who said on Israel Radio that he recited two psalms with the U.S. leader. One of them, Psalm 122, speaks of Jerusalem as a “city that is united together”.
There’s diplomatic friendship, nice people (Xi Jinping); then there’s leadership friendship, great people (Fattah al-Sisi); and then there’s ‘friendship’ friendship. Donald and Melania Trump together with Bibi and Sara Netanyahu have the latter in buckets.
With all the formal decorum that can at times be choking to deal with, Melania and Sara have a naturally gracious and comfortable sense together. Donald and Bibi also really like each other, and they really like that Melania and Sara enjoy each other. Big Bonus. Good stuff.
The most consequential events in history all surround relationships – not simply events. Relationships create trust – trust creates history.
