Excellent News from John Fund at National Review Online:
This hasn’t been a good week for radical filmmaker Michael Moore. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that he recently lost a re-election bid for his position as a governor on the Academy Award’s documentary board.
I don’t know about you, but any time it hasn’t been a good week for Michael Moore, it becomes a better week for me.
Gerald Molen, the producer of Schindler’s List and many other Hollywood films, says Moore’s loss will restore a level of balance in the consideration of political documentaries. This week he wrote a letter to Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, stating:
On behalf of my fellow filmmakers and the vast American Heartland which, on occasion, has felt disenfranchised by the Academy, I want to personally thank you and the Academy for removing Mr. Moore and restoring a fair and impartial voting process to the documentary category of the Oscars. . .
Foxes shouldn’t guard hen houses and Michael Moore shouldn’t have been in charge of the documentary nominating process at the Academy.”
Molen and Dinesh D’Souza produced the film, 2016, a story about the history of President Barack Obama, the second largest grossing political documentary in history, that was passed over by the Academy. As Wikipedia says,
The film was previewed in July 2012 on a single screen in Houston, Texas, grossing almost $32,000 during its opening weekend. In August, the film was expanded to 169, then 1,091, theaters nationwide, following the limited release to 61 theaters over the previous month. ABC News declared the film to be a “box office hit”. During its wide opening weekend release of August 24 through the 26th, the film earned an estimated $6.5 million. As of October 2, 2012, the film had grossed $32.9 million domestically, making it the fourth highest domestic grossing documentary and the second highest domestic grossing political documentary in the United States since 1982.

More good news from National Review:
Molen and D’Souza report their next film will be called America and will be released on July 4 of next year. The two filmmakers say “it will uphold all the things that Michael Moore detests, and expose all of the foolish ideals that this man and his fellow members of the vocal super-minority stand for.”
Lovers of Michael Moore and President Obama are not happy, which makes me just as pleased as punch.
Michael Moore is a blowhard and a phony. He presents himself as a “man of the people” when, in fact, he is a very wealthy, selfish, propagandist. His schtick is that he was born in Flint, MI, home of the oppressed (by General Motors) auto workers.
Michael Francis Moore WAS born in Flint, MI, in 1954 but, in fact, he was raised in middle class Davison, MI, which doesn’t have a hospital. His father was a UAW member, who played golf in the afternoons at the local club. I believe that he worked at Delco on the assembly line. As a UAW member, the elder Moore’s compensation was generous for the work that he did, including excellent benefits.
Moore grew up in a devout Catholic family and attended Catholic primary and middle schools. He was a member of the Boy Scouts. He briefly attended the University of Michigan, but dropped out very quickly.
Michael Moore’s 10,000 square foot Michigan mansion is on beautiful Torch Lake, in Bellaire, Michigan, a tourist town for the well-to-do in the northwest lower peninsula. Other well known persons who have properties in the area are Dave Matthews, Kid Rock, and eminem.
It is reported that he now travels by chauffeured limousine.
My favorite quote from Michael Moore: “There is no terrorist threat!”.
