(Via NewsBusters) During live coverage of the Republican National Convention here in Tampa, Yahoo News Washington bureau chief David Chalian provided the perfect example of the pervasive anti-Republican bias Mitt Romney faces in his bid to unseat President Barack Obama.
In video broadcast Monday night by ABC and Yahoo over the Internet, David Chalian can be heard claiming that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann are unconcerned about the fate of residents of the New Orleans area who are currently being hit by Hurricane Isaac.
“They aren’t concerned at all, they are happy to have a party when black people drown.”
That line elicits laughter from several employees listening in on the joke.
From the audio, it appears Chalian was talking to an unknown individual named “John” who appears to have made some sort of quip which cannot be heard on the video. (read more and listen to video)
Chalian is bestest buds with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell and ABC’s Diane Sawyer
Update from Politico – Yahoo News has fired Washington bureau chief David Chalian after he was caught on a hot-mic during an online video broadcast today saying that Mitt Romney and his wife Ann had no problem with African Americans suffering as a result of Hurricane Isaac.
“They’re not concerned at all. They’re happy to have a party with black people drowning,” Challian said during the ABC News/Yahoo News webcast, in reference to the fact that the GOP convention in Tampa is taking place as Hurricane Isaac makes landfall on the north Gulf coast.
UPDATE (1:30 p.m.): Yahoo News confirms:
“David Chalian’s statement was inappropriate and does not represent the views of Yahoo!. He has been terminated effective immediately. We have already reached out to the Romney campaign, and we apologize to Mitt Romney, his staff, their supporters and anyone who was offended.”
Yeah, sure ya are… Bullsh!t Nah, yer just pissed you got caught and now apologize to anyone “who was offended“. How about how everyone “should be” offended.
